Montgomery AL – In the state Legislature, three bills aimed at addressing Alabama's overcrowded prison system have been approved. The Alabama Sentencing Commission recommended the bills ... one of which would give judges a voluntary list of recommended sentences for various crimes. Another bill would allow judges to consider convictions from other states when determining the sentence for a person arrested for driving under the influence. The third bill would reinstate the process of fining individuals convicted of theft of property in the second degree. Those offenders are currently faced with incarceration for that crime.
