Huntsville, AL – It's supposed to be a bad weather day for the northern half of the state Friday. The National Weather Service is expecting a significant severe weather outbreak this afternoon through tonight. Scattered thunderstorms will begin to develop in northwest Alabama during the early afternoon hours. Forecasters say explosive thunderstorm development is expected to continue well into the evening. The greatest threat across the Tennessee Valley will occur between three and 10 P-M. Some of those storms likely will become capable of producing large hail, damaging winds and flash flooding. There is also a chance for strong tornadoes. The risk of severe weather is described as moderate across central Alabama, but the possibility for severe weather still exists. The National Weather Service describes today's storm system as a potentially dangerous weather situation.
