Montgomery, AL – A new law brings back a highway safety committee that's charged with lowering the number of highway deaths. The State Safety Coordinating Committee will survey parts of the state where there have been multiple highway deaths. The group will then recommend safety improvements. Two years ago, there were more than 11-hundred traffic fatalities in Alabama. The committee's goal will be to reduce highway fatalities to fewer than that number. It's a 12-member committee with a budget around one million dollars.
