Mobile, AL – Former Mobile County Sheriff Jack Tillman left office Wednesday after pleading guilty to an ethics violation and perjury. He will not serve time in jail because he was given a three-month suspended sentence. He will have to pay one thousand dollars in fines and serve one year of informal probation. Tillman also must repay the 13-thousand dollars he took from the Mobile County Metro Jail food fund. The state was giving the county one dollar-75 cents a day to feed prisoners housed in the Mobile County jail. Tillman was spending a dollar-45 a day, and he kept the 30-cent difference. He deposited the extra money into his private retirement account.
