Alexander City, AL – Russell Corporation has agreed to be purchased by Berkshire Hathaway Incorporated for nearly 600 million dollars. Russell is based in Atlanta, but it spent most of the last century based and operating in Alexander City. It still has offices and manufacturing plants there. Russell is known for its sportswear, including sweat shirts, workout clothes, and team uniforms. Russell spokeswoman Nancy Young says Berkshire Hathaway will assume 400 to 500 million dollars in debt when it purchases the company. Stockholders and regulators still must approve the deal.
