Strong Storms Rocked East Alabama Wednesday

By Alabama Public Radio

Undated, AL – Parts of east Alabama got some really nasty weather Wednesday night. There were tornado warnings in St. Clair and Talladega counties, and storm spotters reported seeing funnel clouds near Pell City and Talladega. Hail the size of baseballs fell in some areas, and the storms had the usual heavy rainfall, lightning and damaging wind gusts. Trees fell over in parts of St. Clair county and blocked Highway 231 and Highway 78. The storms also cut off electricity to about eight-thousand people last night. That number had been reduced to about a thousand people earlier this morning. Alabama Power says most of those customers should have had their electricity restored by now. I'll have today's weather forecast at the end of the newscast.
