Baseball Teams Appear Segregated

By Alabama Public Radio

LaFayette, AL – Parents and coaches found something suspicious about this year's Dixie Youth baseball teams in LaFayette. Apparently, the city pretty much has white and black baseball teams. The LaFayette City Council has frozen the Dixie Youth baseball program's funding. The council deadlocked on a motion this week to release the money. League coach Chris Busby says the two teams were selected at the beginning of the year. He says the sign-up time was even extended a week so another team could be formed with players who missed the initial deadline. League President Jimbo Brown says he heard no complaints about the racial makeup of the teams until the first City Council meeting.
