Siegelman, Scrushy Trial Begins

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – Siegelman will be trying to convince a jury of his innocence during the very weeks that he will be trying to convince Democrats to vote for him in the June Sixth primary. Chief prosecutor Louis Franklin says the election would not effect the way he prosecutes the case. And he says Siegelman's candidacy was not a factor in seeking the indictment. Federal Judge Mark Fuller has told jurors the trial could last four to six weeks, but Siegelman says he believes there will be a verdict by Memorial Day, just in time for the June Sixth primary.
