Women Build Homes for Habitat for Humanity

By Alabama Public Radio

Mobile, AL – They'll be joined Tuesday by governors' spouses from Alabama, Arkansas and Maine. The work marks the start of a new two-year initiative in which governors' spouses from across the country will join women and other volunteers to build a Habitat house in each state and the District of Columbia. The foundations for the 11 homes at Theodore have been prepared in advance. With an all-female Women Build crew on one home and mixed crews from AmeriCorps on the others, the plan is to put up the walls and roofs in four days, with subcontractors finishing the work in about four weeks.
