Montgomery AL – The 2006 Places in Peril list has been released. The list features historical structures or places that are at high risk of being demolished, lost or permanently altered. This year's Places in Peril list includes a former Montgomery judicial building, homes of some of Anniston's founders and the Drish House in Northport, which has served as a plantation house and a Baptist church. Also on the list of twelve sites is Phillips High School in Birmingham, which is slated for an 8-point-5 million dollar renovation that will allow the opening of a pre-kindergarten through eighth-grade school in 2007. The annual Places in Peril list does NOT provide any formal protection, but it can help draw support for preserving the sites. The list is compiled by the Alabama Historical Commission and the Alabama Trust for Historic Preservation.
