Jefferson County AL – Republican candidates in races for seats on the Jefferson County Commission are being asked to pledge only to vote for a Republican candidate for commission president. The pledge aimed at unseating current president Larry Langford ... a Democrat ... and undoing some of his initiatives, including a one cent sales tax for school construction. Langford was elected commission president in 2002, with a vote from Republican commissioner Gary White. That vote created a backlash and some Republicans are now supporting his opponent ... former state Rep. Jim Carns ... in the race for District 5. There is not Democratic challenger for that seat.
