Atlanta, GA – BellSouth says it has found no indication that it gave customer records to the National Security Agency. The newspaper U-S-A Today reported last week that BellSouth, A-T-and-T and Verizon gave the agency several million phone records after the September 11th terrorist attacks. A spokesman for BellSouth, though, says the company is confident that it did not turn over any records to the government. But U-S-A Today says it contacted BellSouth the day before it published its initial story and the company did not challenge the report. BellSouth is the dominant local telephone service provider in Alabama and eight other southeastern states.
