Alabama Soldiers Dies In Iraq

By Alabama Public Radio

Daleville AL – An Alabama soldier has been identified as one of two people killed when their helicopter was shot down recently in Iraq. 47-year-old Chief Warrant Officer Jamie Weeks was from Daleville. The Pentagon says he and a soldier from Texas were killed Sunday when insurgents shot down their Apache helicopter in Youssifiyah (yu-soo-FEE-ah) ... located about 12 miles south of Baghdad. Both soldiers were assigned to the First Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment based at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Weeks brother, Army Lieutenant Colonel Joel Weeks, who is stationed in Afghanistan, will accompany the slain soldier to the United States. Weeks is survived by his wife and four daughters.
