Defense Portrays Witness as a Broke Braggart

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – A defense attorney in the government corruption trial of former Governor Don Siegelman is trying to portray Lanny Young as a cash-strapped braggart. Young is a landfill developer and lobbyist who says he exchanged thousands of dollars and gifts for political favors. Attorney Jeff Deen got Young to admit that he filed a business bankruptcy in 1992 and a personal bankruptcy in 1995. Deen portrayed Young as being broke during the time Young says he was giving Siegelman's administration thousands of dollars. Thursday was the third day of testimony from Young.
