Former Probate Judge Testifies in Corruption Trial

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – Former Cherokee County probate judge Phillip Jordan testified Monday that he was encouraged to help Lanny Young build a landfill in that county. He says former Governor Don Siegelman and his chief of staff Paul Hamrick asked for the help. Jordan has since served a six month prison sentence for taking 100-thousand dollars in bribes from Young. But, he testified that he did not believe Siegelman or Hamrick had anything to do with the bribes. Jordan is one of the government's key witnesses in the corruption case against Siegelman, Hamrick, former state Transportation Director Mack Roberts and former HealthSouth C-E-O Richard Scrushy.
