Textile Company May Close Alabama Plants

By Alabama Public Radio

Sylacauga, AL – Avondale Mills says it may have to close all of its plants in Alabama, South Carolina and Georgia. Specifically, the company says it's considering shutting down its Sylacauga and Pell City plants. That would affect more than 11-hundred workers. Avondale is also trying to sell its plants in Alexander City and in Coosa County. Meanwhile, a company manager says all the plants could close as soon as July 25th. He says the company's finances are suffering because of international trade and last year's deadly train wreck that killed nine people, six of whom were company employees.
