Undated, AL – It's a given that state troopers and other law enforcement officers will be watching Alabama's roadways even more this weekend. Extra troopers will be on patrol along popular vacation routes as vacationers travel toward the beaches for the Memorial Day holiday weekend. Those roadways include all interstates and U-S Highways 231 and 331, especially south of Montgomery. Troopers are estimating 17 people may die in traffic accidents during the holiday travel period. It will begin Friday evening at six o'clock and will end at midnight Monday. Last year, 13 people died in traffic accidents during the 78-hour holiday.
