Absentee Ballots Scrutinized

By Alabama Public Radio

Black Belt AL – Concerns are being raised about the absentee voting in some counties is being conducted. But in Perry County more than 12-hundred absentee ballots have already been issued ... and in the county's first District, more than 50-percent of voters have already cast absentee ballots. Meanwhile, neighboring Bibb County has more voters but has only issued 30 absentee ballots. Typically, only about 3-percent of a county's vote total come by absentee ballot. A spokesperson for the Alabama Voting Integrity Project says some Black Belt counties have a problem with people who solicit votes or recruit voters and take them to the polls. Probate Judge Donald Cook says illegal voting goes unchecked despite numerous investigations. Under Alabama law a voter can ask for help in casting a ballot, but no one can offer that help to them.
