Montgomery AL – The government corruption trial of former Governor Don Siegelman and three others continued Tuesday morning with testimony from state Transportation official Frank Courson. Prosecutors hope Courson will help them prove Siegelman appointed Mac Roberts ... one of the three others charged ... as highway director after telling toll bridge developer Jim Allen he could pick the next highway director. In exchange, Allen had to give 40-thousand dollars to give Siegelman's 1998 campaign for governor. Prosecutors also say that after being appointed, Roberts gave preference to a Tuscaloosa County road project that led to one of Allen's toll bridges. Under cross-examination, Courson said he considered that project appeared to be worthwhile and money well spent.
