Montgomery, AL – The department of transportation's chief engineer testified Tuesday in the government corruption trial in Montgomery. Don Vaughn told the jury that after Mack Roberts became the department's director, the agency began using a product called Rainline to stripe state roads. It cost of about 42 million dollars. But Vaughn said it would have cost about 14 million dollars to use the striping product the department had previously used. Toll bridge operator Jim Allen was one of the investors in Rainline. He also recommended that Governor Don Siegelman hire Roberts as state transportation director.
