Grand Jury Indicts Immigrant Smugglers

By Alabama Public Radio

Birmingham, AL – Two men are now under federal indictments on charges of smuggling illegal aliens. A grand jury in Birmingham has indicted the men on charges of transporting illegal aliens for commercial or financial gain. Both men were arrested April 25th in Vestavia Hills. U-S Attorney Alice Martin says officers were called to a McDonald's restaurant to break up a fight between them. While there, authorities found 24 Hispanic people in four vehicles. U-S Customs agents determined the passengers were being transported to other states in the Southeast and East. Those people are being held at the Etowah County jail.
