Meeting Scheduled for Tri-State Water Talks

By Alabama Public Radio

Columbus, MS – Representatives from Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee are invited to a July 18th meeting in Columbus, Mississippi, to discuss withdrawal of water from the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway. Waterway Executive Director Thomas Griffith says the cities of Tupelo and Corinth have plans to directly withdraw water from the waterway channel. He says that has raised interstate concerns as states increasingly stake claims to waters running inside their boundaries. Officials say water quality, interstate flow volume, navigation and broader environmental issues are all factors that could be sticking points over the issue.
