Mobile County Will Use School Buses for Evacuations

By Alabama Public Radio

Mobile, AL – Mobile County is planning to use school buses as part of its hurricane evacuation plan. Those who don't have transportation would take the buses to storm shelters. About 600 buses from the Mobile County school system would be used. Local emergency management officials say that should be enough to evacuate the estimated seven-to-10 thousand people who'll need the transportation. The buses would be dispatched to pickup sites 48 to 60 hours before a hurricane is expected to make landfall.
