Montgomery, AL – The prosecution rested its case Thursday in the government corruption trial of former Governor Don Siegelman and three others. Prosecutors spent 27 days over six weeks presenting their case. U-S District Judge Mark Fuller spent the afternoon hearing arguments from defense attorneys, who say the judge should dismiss all of the charges. That may not happen, but the defense hopes at least some of the charges will be dropped. Siegelman's attorney, Vince Kilborn, says the case has been a total failure for the government. But chief prosecutor Louis Franklin sees it differently. He says the government has proven that Siegelman used the governor's office to operate a criminal enterprise. The defense is scheduled to begin presenting its side of the case Friday.
