Vietnamese Fish Ban Widened

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery AL – State Agriculture officials have expanded a stop sale order on Vietnamese fish to now include a product being labeled as "Wild Caught Grouper." State Agriculture Commissioner Ron Sparks says that "grouper" is actually a Vietnamese catfish. Last August, Sparks issued a stop sale order on all Vietnamese farm-raised fish and seafood products in Alabama. He says yesterday's action came after continued testing of Vietnamese fish brands. He says the labeling issue is important because some foreign fish farms use antibiotics banned by the US Food and Drug Administration.
