Montgomery, AL – Twenty-seven states and the District of Columbia have made an agreement with Chevron. Alabama is among them. The company will begin taking steps to reduce cigarette sales to children. The company operates about 91-hundred retail stores and will train those employees to help solve the problem. The company says it will install new cash registers that ask for identification, and it will eliminate cigarette vending machines. Chevron says its stores also will keep tobacco products in secure areas. The company will require its franchises to report violations and make tobacco sales to children grounds for terminating franchising agreements.
