Fish Kill Caused By Unreported Train Wreck

By Alabama Public Radio

Shelby County AL – A fish kill discovered on Yellow Leaf Creek has led to the discovery of a train derailment in rural Shelby County. Nine cars of a C-S-X train went off the tracks in a rural area two weeks ago ... a derailment the company failed to report to local authorities. The accident wasn't discovered until a local resident called in to report the fish kill, which state environmental officials say was caused by the wreckage. The car were carrying soybeans. The Shelby County Emergency Management Agency says C-S-X has apologized for not reporting the derailment.
