Birmingham, AL – Only one HealthSouth executive has been convicted by a jury for that company's two-point-seven billion dollar fraud. Hannibal "Sonny" Crumpler was sentenced to eight years in federal prison Thursday. It's the longest term given to anyone who was convicted or pled guilty in that case. Crumpler is a former vice president and division controller. His attorneys had wanted probation, parole or house arrest, so they said they may appeal the sentence. Prosecutors had asked for a 15-year sentence. U-S District Judge Virginia Emerson Hopkins handed down the prison sentence.
