Alabama Public Radio – Federal bribery charges against a former University of Alabama booster who died in an accident at his home have been dismissed, but prosecutors are still pursuing civil penalties against Logan Young's estate. Young was found dead in his home in April. He was a multimillionaire and a long-time Crimson Tide booster. He was also convicted in 2005 of bribing a high school football coach to steer a top recruit to Alabama. An appeal of the federal conviction on money laundering and conspiracy charges was pending when he died. Federal Judge J. Daniel Breen Monday dismissed the charges. Breen also ordered the U.S. Marshals officer to turn over to Young's estate $96,000 that was being held pending the outcome of his appeal. That amount was equal to what he was accused of paying the coach. The recruiting scandal also played a part in an NCAA investigation that led to sanctions against Alabama in 2002.
