Connecticut – Connecticut-based H-J Baker and Brothers is recalling three livestock feed ingredients, including two used to supplement feed given to dairy cows. This after the discovery that the feed had been contaminated and could potentially cause mad cow disease. The feed was sold in Alabama and nine other states. A company executive says a sample tested by the Food and Drug Administration was positive for cattle meat and bone meal. Mad cow disease is only known to spread when cows eat feed containing brain and other nerve tissue from infected cattle. H-J Baker and Brothers says it doesn't know how much of the feed ingredients were sold.
