Anniston-Atlanta Connection One Step Closer to Completion

By Alabama Public Radio

Anniston, AL – Residents of the Atlanta and Anniston areas will soon be able to bike, walk or run the Silver Comet Trail all the way from Atlanta to Anniston.

Coca-Cola North America is donating $100,000 to help fill in an eight-mile gap on the route that runs West from the Alabama line.

The money will also be used to help build a so-called gateway park at the Georgia-Alabama line.

The Silver Comet Trail runs 57 miles from Smyrna to the Alabama line along an abandoned freight rail corridor.

In Alabama, the Chief Ladiga Trail runs along the same corridor from Anniston to a point about eight miles West of the Georgia state line.

Ed McBrayer is the executive director of the Atlanta-based PATH Foundation. He says the donation from Coke will help Alabama finish the trail and will bring something significant to the state line.
