Birmingham, AL – Two Jefferson County Commissioners are backing away from an expansion of the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex because it's tied to a domed stadium.
Commissioners Gary White and Mary Buckelew had earlier said they would consider an expansion without a dome, and the BJCC had said it would focus only on expansion.
But White and Buckelew say that hasn't happened.
Commissioner Bettye Fine Collins, meanwhile, says she will not support the expansion, with or without a dome.
And Commission President Larry Langford and Commissioner Shelia Smoot do favor expansion and a dome.
The BJCC's proposal calls for the county to spend at least $185 million to buy land that's needed for an expansion, street infrastructure, engineering and project management.
