Montgomery, AL – State troopers say at least sixteen people were killed in roadway accidents during the 102-hour Fourth of July holiday travel period. Six of the deadly accidents occurred Tuesday in Macon, Baldwin, Chilton, Walker and Wilcox counties. Troopers say other fatalities were recorded in Elmore, Jefferson, Madison, Monroe, Montgomery, Talladega, Cleburne and Butler counties. The Department of Public Safety had estimated that 20 people could die in accidents over the travel period.
