Democrats Delay Appointment to District 70

By Alabama Public Radio

Tuscaloosa AL – State Democratic officials say they may call a special meeting on who will be tapped as a replacement to the District 70 House seat ... vacated due to recent legal problem surrounding state Representative Bryant Melton of Tuscaloosa. Melton has agreed to plead guilty to felony charges of theft and money laundering after being accused of routing 68-thousand dollars in taxpayer money to himself through the Alabama Fire College foundation. The District 70 appointment is almost certain to be relected ... there is no Republican opposition in that district. Democratic officials say they may call a special meeting on August 26th in Montgomery.
