Record Breaking Heat Possible Today and Tomorrow

By Alabama Public Radio

Tuscaloosa AL – Tuscaloosa, Selma and other communities in the western half of Alabama will be in for a scorcher today. Forecasters predict a record breaking day for heat in Tuscaloosa with a daily high of 102 degrees. Heat indices are expected to be in the 106 to 108 range. Similar conditions are expected elsewhere today and tomorrow with only a slight chance of an isolated shower or thunderstorm. Health workers say be wary of heat stroke ... headaches, excessive sweating or nausea are all symptoms. You can help stay cool by wearing loose, lightly colored clothing and a hat ... if you're working outside, stay in the shade whenever possible, take plenty of breaks and drink lots of non caffeinated liquids. An Ozone Action Day has also been declared and the public is asked to voluntarily limit its use of electricity and gasoline power devices like cars and lawnmowers.
