Houston Cleared in Ethics Probe

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery AL – A judicial ethics complaint filed against former Alabama Supreme Court Justice Gorman Houston has been dismissed. Huntsville attorney Dean Johnson filed the complaint claiming that Houston went to work for a Birmingham law firm after he retired. The law firm represents Exxon Mobil in its natural gas royalty dispute with Alabama. Houston served on the state Supreme Court when it overturned a 3-point-5 billion dollar verdict previously won by the state. But the Judicial Inquiry Commission says it found no ethics violation and the case has been closed. Houston says he was never worried because he knew had not done anything wrong.
