Birmingham AL – A federal judge in Birmingham will hearing more arguments in a long running water sharing dispute between Alabama, Georgia and Florida. The states are at odds over how much water must be released from Georgia reserviors to support interests along the Apalachicola-Chatahoochee-Flint river basin. U-S District Judge Karon Bowdre is trying to decide whether to order the U-S Army Corp of Engineers to adjust water releases from the Woodruff Lock and Dam. Florida says it needs at least 63 cubic feet per second to protect the habitat of endangered mussels in Apalachicola River ... hundreds of which the state says have already died due to low water flows. Georgia wants less water released, to hold more water upstream near Atlanta.
