Barkley Talks About Running for Governor

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – Former Auburn and NBA basketball star Charles Barkley says if he runs for governor, he'll do it as a Democrat. And he says if he runs, he'll probably do it in 20-10. Barkley is from Leeds and has been talking about running for governor for years. He has publicly identified himself as a Republican, but he says he would switch to the Democratic Party if he runs for governor. State Democratic Party chairman Joe Turnham says that's great news. He says he'll invite Barkley to some party events. Barkley says even though he's thinking ahead a few years, his immediate goal is to get his 17-year-old daughter through high school and into college.
