Montgomery, AL – Retired Samford University President Thomas Corts is now the interim chancellor of Alabama's two-year college system. The state school board named him to the post Thursday morning. But it didn't happen before some board members debated his credentials and complained that other candidates weren't seriously considered. Corts will take over on August 15th. Acting chancellor Renee Culverhouse will return to her position as president of Gadsden State Community College. The board fired former chancellor Roy Johnson earlier this month amid concerns of corruption and nepotism.
