Tuscaloosa, AL – The state Democratic Executive Committee will meet Saturday to decide who the party's House District 70 candidate will be. Several people interested in the nomination appeared before the Tuscaloosa County Democratic Executive Committee on August 8th, where they answered questions from the panel and the public. The committee voted on its choice by secret ballot. However, the state committee is not bound to that vote. The nominee will likely win the District 70 seat as there is no Republican opponent. The seat became vacant after Representative Bryant Melton pleaded guilty to fraud and theft charges.
