Scottsboro Plant Will Close

By Associated Press

Scottsboro, AL – About 100 jobs will be affected when Performance Fibers ceases most of its operations in Scottsboro because of a declining U-S tire market. The Virginia-based company said Wednesday it plans to idle its polyester fiber production at its Scottsboro plant by the end of the year. Performance Fibers C-E-O Greg Rogowski said the company is consolidating its North American operations at a larger facility in North Carolina. Rogowski also said he recognizes the difficulty and uncertainty the idling causes for longtime employees. The plant will continue its fabric dipping operation, but Rogowski said he didn't know how many employees will be retained for that work.
