Montgomery, AL – A federal judge has refused to throw out the government corruption convictions of former Governor Don Siegelman and former HealthSouth CEO Richard Scrushy. U-S District Judge Mark Fuller ruled Monday that there was "substantial evidence" to support the convictions. A two-month-long federal court trial ended in June with a jury convicting Siegelman and Scrushy of bribery and conspiracy charges. Attorneys for Siegelman and Scrushy had asked Fuller to overturn the convictions based in part on a lack of evidence. The judge has not yet ruled on more recent filings by Siegelman and Scrushy claiming improper communication by jurors during deliberations in their trial.
