Former Commissioner Sentenced to Prison

By Associated Press

Birmingham, AL – A federal judge sentenced former Jefferson County Commissioner Jeff Germany on Monday to 43 months in federal prison and ordered him to pay 126-thousand-830 dollars in restitution. In June, a federal jury found Germany guilty on four counts of misapplying county funds and one count of conspiracy. The jurors, who deliberated for about six and a half hours, found that he used social service agencies to gain access to thousands of dollars in taxpayer money for personal gain. 58-year-old Germany is scheduled to report to prison on December eleventh.
