By Associated Press

Auburn, AL – An east Alabama teacher described as dedicated and an inspiration to her students was named the winner of 25-thousand dollars from the Milken Family Foundation National Educator Award. At a school assembly Wednesday, State School Superintendent Joe Morton presented the award to Shannon Brandt, a fourth-grade teacher at Wrights Mill Road Elementary School in Auburn. Brandt has taught at the school for 13 years and she is among 100 educators across the nation to receive the prestigious honor this year. To date, 22 Alabama educators have won the Milken award, which was established in 1987.
