Huntsville, AL – An 18-year-old Grissom High School graduate will lobby for a United Nations vote at a South Africa meeting. Dana Lewis, who has diabetes, will attend the World Diabetes Congress in Cape Town, South Africa in December. The Huntsville native and University of Alabama freshman is pushing to make the world aware of the growing diabetes epidemic. She's one of just 25 young adults invited to help lobby the United Nations to weigh in on the diabetes problem. Alabama is among the most diabetes-prone states, with about 10 percent of adults either confirmed diabetics or sick but not yet diagnosed. According to reports, the United States may vote against the proposed U-N- resolution, which is being sponsored by tiny Bangladesh. Lewis says she plans to do her best to change the thinking of America's U-N- ambassador, John Bolton.
