DHR Says Adoptions Are Up

By Associated Press

Montgomery, AL – The Alabama Department of Human Resources said it placed more than 380 children with adoptive families this year. That's compared to 325 children in 2005 and 315 in 2004. In a statement Wednesday, D-H-R Commissioner Page Walley said at the end of fiscal year 2006 there were approximately 630 Alabama children available for adoption. He said about 380 are expected to be adopted by their current foster parents. But Walley said the remaining 250 waiting children need a loving family. November has been designated as Adoption Awareness Month.
