Belk Will Move Jobs Out of Alabama

By Associated Press

Birmingham, AL – Birmingham is about to lose more than 400 jobs to North Carolina. The Belk department store chain says it is moving positions from the Birmingham headquarters of Parisian to Charlotte, North Carolina. The change will affect 414 jobs. Officials say the changes should be finished by March. Belk bought Birmingham's Parisian chain for $285 million in August. That ended the company's 120 years in Birmingham. Job cuts are typically part of such deals. Belk plans to rename the 27 Parisian stores it acquired in Alabama. All the company's stores go by the Belk name.
