Construction Resumes on South Alabama Shopping Center

By Associated Press

Spanish Fort, AL – Developers say they are back on schedule to build a massive shopping area just off Interstate 10 in Spanish Fort, anchored by a Bass Pro Shops outlet. Construction resumes in two months. The Spanish Fort City Council got the update last night on the Staubach Realty and Cypress Equities project that's been idle since November of last year. The city will be asked to pump $2.5 million more into the project. Once expected to encompass almost a million square feet, the shopping center will now be broken into two phases. The first phase will include 650,000 square feet of retail space, as well as an apartment complex. It could open by summer of 2008.
