Birmingham, AL – A north Alabama woman was charged Tuesday with hindering prosecution and her boyfriend was charged with capital murder in the death of the woman's five-year-old son, who was reported missing Monday. 25-year-old Shalinda Glass of Rainbow City told police Monday that her son was sleeping in the back of her car outside a convenience store when the car was stolen. An Amber Alert was issued and a massive search ensued. Etowah County Sheriff James Hayes said the body of Geontae Glass was discovered shortly after one a-m inside the missing Nissan Altima, which had been parked in a closed garage at a house in rural Etowah County. Glass and her boyfriend, 31-year-old Kevin Andre Towles, who is believed to own the house where the body was found, were arrested early yesterday morning at Towles' apartment in Rainbow City. They were both being held in the Etowah County jail last night. Hayes said Glass told police that her son, who was in kindergarten, died from a beating after he brought home a bad progress report from school Friday. Towles, according to Hayes, has several residences and investigators searched his home in Albertville and discovered evidence that led them to the house in Etowah County. Besides the body, officers found more than 30-thousand dollars in cash, a small amount of cocaine, marijuana residue and weapons including an A-K-47.
