Orlando, FL – Huntingdon College and Talladega College have been removed from probationary sanctions by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The action by SACS's Commission on Colleges was announced by the schools Tuesday. Huntingdon, founded in 1854, is a liberal arts school in Montgomery affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Talladega College is a historically black school founded in 1867 in Talladega. Both schools were placed on probation in 2004. The lifting of their probationary status means that no SACS-accredited schools in Alabama are on probation, according to the commission's Web site. The SACS commission voted to reaffirm accreditation to the schools during its annual meeting held Saturday in Orlando, Fla. SACS accreditation represents an institution's ability to provide effective programs and services based on agreed-upon requirements.
